If you’re looking for great senior picture location ideas then you’ve come to the right place! The city of Ann Arbor and surrounding area offer a wide array of locations to secure great, memorable senior photos. Each senior has a style & personality that may attract them to a specific backdrop for its aesthetic or sentimental value. A specific location and its surroundings can bring out your unique personality and style – angles and lighting then provide enhancement. Below is a list of photo shoot location ideas I recommend considering for your senior pictures. By all means, if a different place means a lot to you, let me know!
Senior picture location ideas in Ann Arbor:
- Island Park in Ann Arbor is home to natural paths, boardwalks, a Greek Revival Shelter and a lot of tree and river beauty.
- Parker Mill Park, 4650 Geddes Rd., Hoyt G Post Trail along Fleming Creek, offers a mile long boardwalk, Italianate architecture and a historic grist mill and cider mill.
- Lillie Park, located at 4365 Platt Rd., Ann Arbor offers up beautiful trails with tall grasses, boardwalks and ponds with docks that work great for senior portraits.
- Matthaei Botanical Gardens, located at 1800 N. Dixboro Rd., Ann Arbor, boasts several miles of trails just right for capturing seniors in a nature element. Trails and gardens which promise interesting senior photos include: The Gateway Garden known for its many spring flowering bulbs, annuals and perennials alike as well as an arch on which to sit or lean surrounded by color. - Kerrytown in downtown Ann Arbor is full of historic brick buildings, cute storefronts and textured backgrounds for photo variety as well as a Farmer’s Market pavilion which photographs well.
- Graffiti Alley, 517 or 521 E. Liberty St., Ann Arbor, offers an urban, colorful vibe with its ever-changing graffitied walls of art which result in artistic senior pictures.
The University of Michigan campus offers up a great variety in architecture, sculpture, modern cityscapes, murals and green space. Here are some of my favorite spots to hit in Downtown Ann Arbor:
- The Ross School of Business, 701 Tappan Ave., photographs beautifully thanks to its modern architecture, brick columns and textured exterior.
- The Kelsey Museum of Archaeology at 434 S State St, Ann Arbor offers up a wonderful stone exterior with historic archways and an industrial staircase which adds character to any photo.
- The Law Quadrangle at 625 S. State St., features historic architectural Tudor Gothic style buildings. Trees, stone, brick and iron work lend a cool aesthetic to photos.
- The Museum of Art at 525 S. State St., offers steps, pillars and a vivid red outside sculpture.
- Angell Hall, 435 S. State St., has a facade of massive Doric columns and black iron railings for cool, crisp photos.
- Ferry Field, 1150 S. State St., is a historic track where Jesse Owens set world records. It’s an ideal location for that senior with a passion for track and field.
