If you’re stumped on what senior picture poses look best, this blog post is for you! The last thing any senior wants is for their senior photos to look cheesy or awkward. These photos are an important memory, celebrating your high school experience and pending graduation. In order to get great shots that are genuine, choosing a spot where you feel comfortable and confident is key. That might be a place in nature, an athletic field or a favorite downtown area. When you book me to take your senior pictures, I will help you pose in ways I know will work great but will also keep you comfortable and looking your best.
Below are some examples of senior picture poses that tend to bring out the real person in the photos.
-
Walking
Taking a stroll along a garden at Mattaei or down a lane on my farm property makes for a relaxed photo. I can capture you while walking in a field of flowers, in a wooded area or on a football field. Walking away from or toward the camera provide really unique shots. Walking away from camera can capture Varsity jackets and team uniform numbers very well if that’s important to you.
-
Sitting
Sometimes taking a load off is not only a great pose but also a welcomed break! Sitting under a tree, on a downed log riverside, or on some natural steps allows for relaxed photos. A book, musical instrument or pet can also lend to the success of a seated pose. I will help you arrange your clothing and hands once seated so we get the best pose possible.
-
Leaning
Casually leaning against a tree, barn, bridge, or a building with a cool facade adds a cool aesthetic to your senior pictures. Holding a flower, instrument or other meaningful item can also work well while leaning. Pets can also enter the mix.

Looking away from camera
If looking right at the camera just isn’t your thing, or you just want a different angle, we can take shots of you looking off into the distance. Looking toward a river, flower field or wooded area works great! If you want to look away from the camera while standing on an athletic field or in front of a colorful wall mural we can do that, too.

Utilizing pockets
Sometimes putting a hand or two in our pockets gives us something to do with our hands when we are nervous. It also changes up your body posture and makes for a casual, fun look. When thinking about what outfits you want to wear for your senior pictures, consider a pair of pants or dress with pockets loose enough to utilize during the session. I’m so glad that dress designers have FINALLY realized that women want pockets too!
No matter what senior picture poses you choose, I am confident they will show off your unique personality! If you’re stumped on what to wear to your session, check out a recent blog post with plenty of senior picture outfit ideas.
